Salary Range: $2,318.32 - $4,404.81 (Monthly*)
*The successful candidate will be hired at the minimum salary.
This is responsible work performing a variety of secretarial, administrative, fiscal, and clerical work supporting the Office of Personnel Services. The Administrative Assistant I is responsible for typing and editing correspondence, detailed reports and charts, memoranda, and job opportunity announcements, using a personal computer and applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Dreamweaver. The Administrative Assistant I is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive office filing system; ordering and maintaining supplies; preparing travel arrangements; scheduling meetings, training events, and conferences; and preparing materials for presentations, meetings, and training sessions. The Administrative Assistant I works independently and must exercise discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information. The Administrative Assistant I must meet deadlines and plan and establish priorities for multiple work assignments, including long and short range projects. Work is performed under general supervision.
Education and Training Guidelines:
Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis and additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in business administration, office skills or a related field.

Equipment Usage:
Handles machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving some latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items, such as computers, peripherals, or software programs such as word processing or spreadsheets.
Special Comments:
*Desired experience with advertising vacant positions on People First, tracking expenses using excel spreadsheets, creating PDF documents and using Dreamweaver to post documents to the web.
*Knowledge of State Purchasing Card and vendor invoice processing; and knowledge of and ability to understand and follow Section 508 guidelines in their work also desired.
Knowledge of and ability to use correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Knowledge of and ability to perform basic mathematical operations and simple statistics. Ability to plan and prepare reports, correspondence, and charts in a variety of formats. Ability to use a personal computer and applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, and Dreamweaver. Ability to anticipate and plan for staffing needs for multiple projects and activities. Ability to organize work, establish priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to organize and/or automate office procedures and maintain an effective filing system. Ability to manage multiple assignments including long and short range projects. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to deal tactfully with the public. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion concerning confidential information.
