OpenCourt is an open-source based Digital Court Recording (DCR) System developed by the Florida State Courts system. It enables jurisdictions to capture high-quality audio and video recordings of court events.  The OpenCourt journey began in 2008 and since then it has been approved as statewide DCR compliant standards in 2011.  It leverages free open-source software libraries for video and audio compression, and because there are no licensing fees, the courts can offer free access to staff and judges across multiple circuits/courts. Currently 42 counties (over 500 venues) run OpenCourt software in Florida. Upon governing-authority approval, OpenCourt's source code will be released to the public under a GPLv3 license (at a date to be announced later).
